An affidavit is a written statement that allows the person making it to present evidence in court or other legal proceedings. The person making the affidavit must take an oath or make an affirmation that the contents of the affidavit are true and correct.
Power of attorney is a formal document giving another person the authority to make legally binding decisions on your behalf.
What to bring;
- Your completed UNSIGNED document
- Instructions from your lawyer/solicitor (if applicable)
- Identification that contains your photo and signature (ie a passport).

If an Australian permanent resident, a valid foreign passport with evidence of permanent residence in Australia.
If a foreign citizen, a valid foreign passport or valid photo identification
If divorced, a Divorce Certificate for the previous marriage. *In Australia, divorce granted after 13 February 2010: Clients need to obtain proof of divorce from the online Commonwealth Courts Portal – this is a digital order with an electronic seal and signature.
If widowed, the deceased partner's Death Certificate.
If under 18 years of age, a copy of the judicial authorisation to marry. This must be issued by an Australian court of law.
Supporting documents can be originals, or certified true copies. If the documents are not in English, they must be accompanied by an English translation that's performed by a professional translator.

We cannot:
- provide legal advice.
- witness signatures on documents issued by Banks.

The Consulate can not witness Statutory Declarations to be used to support marriage in China or the transfer of Chinese land/property.
Statutory Declarations should be written in English, however clients may include their own translation within the space provided prior to signing.
You must bring identification containing both your signature and photograph (eg your passport) so we can verify your identity and signature on any documents you sign.
